Official Record Paths
New York’s Freedom of Information Law, commonly called FOIL, can provide a path to agency records, subject to the applicable privacy and law-enforcement review. Current custody, a weekly arrest record, and a later court result are separate kinds of public information with different meanings and limits.
County law-enforcement and corrections offices create booking materials, state corrections systems maintain separate prison information, and courts record what happens after an arrest. We explain those categories and the questions each one can answer, but do not hold official files or reproduce any person’s photograph.
What Is Available Here
Each resource is framed around the type of record it can actually answer. A current custody card, a weekly arrest report, a police blotter, and a court disposition do not mean the same thing.
- Plain-language distinctions between current custody, arrest-report archives, police reporting, and court dispositions.
- Context for warrants and wanted listings that emphasizes official verification rather than recycled names or images.
- Local reporting context that identifies official sources before any unofficial source.
- Municipal-level differences that can affect where a booking or arrest record originated.
What We Cannot Do
Ulster County Busted Mugshots is independently operated. It is not connected to a New York sheriff’s office, jail, corrections department, court, or other government agency. We cannot release, hold, or transfer anyone in custody, post bond, arrange a visit, send funds, provide legal advice, or guarantee that a government office has not changed a phone number, fee, or procedure.
- We cannot verify whether a person is currently in custody or has been released.
- We cannot obtain, amend, seal, or deliver an official booking or court record.
- We cannot decide whether a requested record will be released under FOIL.
- We cannot interpret a charge, warrant, or court outcome as legal advice.
Only the office that maintains a record can confirm it. A booking entry records an allegation, not a conviction, and every person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
